“Not all cops are bad” is what I hear
It is nor here nor there when we continue to be killed by the top tier
They come to the enforcement’s defense
And continue to mock us for jumping the fence
Afraid to even be approached
We are to them a cockroach
Angry to see the privileged beg us to stop
What happened when the cop was atop?
Seen by the true minority by the stereotypes they placed on us
And all they do is fuss when we want to discuss
Us oppressed want to rise, fighting for our right to breathe
In response they pull their gun from their sheathe
Killing as they go, unafraid of reproach
In God We Believe, they say, as our lives are poached
“Not all cops are bad” is what I continue to hear
But all I see is death and anger near
Will Justice ever come?
Or am I to go numb?
I am just a crumb
I am just a piece of chewing gum
To be disposed on the side of the street
To be at their feet
Kiss it, they say, if I want to live
If I say no, surely, they never forgive
Bang bang is the last sound I hear
My body dies and my spirit disappears
Enraged I remain for as long as this injustice persists
Over centuries of abuse and still they twist our wrists
“Not all cops are bad” is what I hear
But we continue to be controlled by the invisible puppeteers
Blinded by the bubble they blew around us
To make sure they keep us constrained and bound us
I am nothing but a body to men
Seen as a product again and again
I question my strength to live
I question my purpose
I question my God
I question my life
I question my freedom
I question my liberty
I question my blood
I question myself
“Not all cops are bad” is what I hear by the privileged
It is they who killed, raped and pillaged
The violence they commit is what they teach
How are we condemned when we try to preach?
Camouflaged among us so we cannot see
They provoke with glee while we take a knee
Punished no matter what because of the color of our skin
They remain free and always win
“Not all cops are bad” is what I hear
But it won’t be long before it is them who shed the tear.
